mass union comments on the life of william "bill" king

"It is with great sorrow that we mourn the loss of a true hero for all of Public Housing and a great friendof all who knew him", said Jack Cooper, exec director of mass union.

William H. “Bill” King, Sr., 83, of Fall River, passed away on Wednesday, August 22, 2018. William H. “Bill” King, Sr. “was a fierce fighter for so many years, but always a gentleman. He was a true fiend and will be missed by all.” said Tom Connelly, former director of CHAPA. He was a 25-year employee and Resident of the Fall River Housing. He was Founding Chairman of the Fall River Joint Tenant Council.

Bill and the board were instrumental in negotiating the first public housing lease in city of Fall Fiver in 1976.
Board Chairman and founding board member of the Mass. Union of Public Housing Tenants. He was also a Founding Board Member of NARSAAH (national Alliance of Resident Services in Affordable and Assisted Housing), a Founding Board member of the National Legal Services, Client Council, Founding Committee Chair of Massachusetts Sport-A-Rama, Former Board member of Massachusetts Legal Assistance Corporation,
Member of the Massachusetts Chapter of Disabled Veterans and was a Navy veteran of the Korean War and served on the USS Yellowstone.

Besides his companion of 32 years, Ms. Marilyn Gustafson, he leaves two daughters, Darlene Craveiro of CO and Donna Peoples and her companion Steve Lafrance of Bridgewater, a stepdaughter, Heidi Gustafson; cousins Carol and Dave Watson of CO; 12 grandchildren and 25 great-grandchildren, and many nieces.
He was the father of the late Deborah Arruda and William King, Jr., the brother of the late Joan Sowa and son of the late John and Rachel (Ginther) King.
Bill was the husband of the late Lorraine P. (Doucette) King and the companion of Marilyn Gustafson of Bridgewater.
